Deep K. Datta-Ray is a Visiting Senior Fellow at S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He is the only outsider to conduct fieldwork in a foreign ministry. His primary interest is the management of violence in the international politics of India and China, and the academic violence of scholars themselves. A related interest is in non-Western ways, not as a nativist collector of things strange but only when they define and motivate things that matter, such as bureaucracies and countries.
