Hans Peter Schmitz is an associate professor at the University of San Diego whose research addresses the governance, accountability, and effectiveness of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs), digital advocacy, and rights-based approaches to development. He is the co-founder and former research director of the Transnational NGO Initiative at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.
