Author profile: Joseph Downing and Richard Dron

Dr Joseph Downing is an LSE Fellow at the European Institute, London School of Economics and Political Science, where he teaches courses on global policy and security. He was previously Marie-Curie fellow at the Laboratoire méditerranéen de sociologie, CNRS, Université Aix-Marseille Marseille and the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London where he conducted a project on the discourses created about British and French Muslims on Twitter.

Richard Dron is a Lecturer in Digital Business at the University of Salford Business School. He leads their academic research cluster for data analytics. He is currently working with industry on ERDF funded projects increasing the capacity and awareness of business key-decision makers of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

There is no formula for deciding who on social media rises to prominence as a security influencer in any given context, and influence in this case is ephemeral and short-lived.
