Dr. Moran M. Mandelbaum is a Lecturer in International Relations, SPIRE, Keele University. His research interests include IR Theory, political theory and critical approaches to security and nationalism as he deploys psychoanalytical and discourse analytical tools. He has recently published a paper in Philosophy and Social Criticism in which he revisits the nation-state problématique in modernity. He has also published on Israeli national identity and political discourse and is currently working on ‘homonationalism’ in Israeli society.

In a Lacanian sense, the Brexit discourse invoked a fantasy return to a lost ‘golden era’ of British power while blaming immigration and the EU for standing in the way.
