Nuclear strategy developed as a means to create a rational framework of deterrence for the seemingly irrational nature of nuclear war. Once placed in an irrational situation, it is questionable as to whether a person, or on organisation could continue to act in a rational manner.
One should not attempt to apply Clausewitz’s individual theses word for word to a modern-day context, but if we succeed in finding fresh angles from which to approach the text, we can still appreciate the applicability of his methods.
